FAQs for Individuals

ANSWERS TO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • GIIM certificates/courses are offered as part of closed programs by our affiliates (e.g., universities, management associations, companies) to help them expand their existing portfolio of learning initiatives.

  • In some cases, depending on the venue and objectives, live/synchronous (e.g., face-to-face, blended/hybrid) programs are open by our affiliates to outsiders.

1. Can I take the courses and pass the certificate / certification without being part of a GIIM group/affiliate (e.g., company, management associations, university, other organization)?

2. How much does it cost?

3. Are there prerequisites required?

This depends on several considerations, and is included in the respective Certificate description, including:

  • Which Certificate?

  • What is your work/professional experience/background; e.g., how many years have you been working, is it in IT or non-IT?

  • If you have no work experience what are your academic credentials?

  • What are your objectives?

4. What are the course requirements for the certificate?

  • Each course is 30-40 hours of class time, depending on the delivery model.

  • Each certificate/certification requires a passing grade for each of the 4 courses; see 9 - 13 below.

5. How long is the program?

  • If you are taking courses asynchronously online, they are self-paced; hence the duration required to complete each course is up to you.  Students/candidates are given 60 calendar days to complete each asynchronous online course.

  • If you are doing it face-to-face or blended, it depends on the meeting schedule derived by the GIIM affiliate.

6. Is it fully online? (Courses and exams?)

  • The asynchronous delivery model (any-time, any place; self paced) is completely online.

  • If you would like to register for any asynchronous online course, click on the link at the bottom of this page.

  • The tuition for each 30+ hour asynchronous course (payable when registering for each course via the link at the bottom of this webpage; you pay for one course at a time) is $750 US.  The cost for each 4-course Certificate is $3,000.

7.  Is there a difference in the content for courses taught/delivered asynchronously online versus face-to-face?

  • The course content, faculty, and certificate awarded are the same for programs delivered synchronously (e.g., face-to-face) or asynchronously (online).

8. Is there a network of mentors available who could facilitate the next career step that I am aiming for?

9. Do I need to attend courses or can I just take the exam?

  • It is highly unlikely that you would pass the exams without first taking each of the courses (or perhaps the equivalent of the courses from a Master’s or Ph.D. Degree in Information Systems/Management; or experience as a CIO or management/business consultant); hence you would need to take each of the 4-courses prior to taking the exams (1-exam for each of the 4-courses).

10. Are there ways I can prepare for the exam alone without taking the courses?

  • See the response in 9 above.

11. How many exams must I pass?

  • There are four (4) exams; 1 exam for each of the 4 courses within the respective certificate; see 12 below.

12. What type of examination is required?

  • The exam differs based on the delivery model:

  • Asynchronous online: multiple choice questions (200+ questions; at least 50 for each of the 4-courses)

  • Face-to-Face & Blended: requires submitting 1-paper for each course that applies the content of the course to your job. If you are not working you must submit a research paper that applies the content of the course to your career aspirations.

13. What is the minimum score to pass and get the certificate?

  • 80% or a B on each of the four (4) exams or papers is required.

  • Candidates passing the GIIM four certificate course exams are also eligible to receive a globally recognized certification, for a small registration fee to the certifying organization.

14.  What do I receive at the end of the program; what does the certificates look like?
