Asynchronous Blended

Asynchronous Blended

  • The asynchronous online certificates can be supplemented via a self-paced asynchronous blended set of online Q&A and project discussions facilitated by local/GIIM faculty.

  •  Each asynchronous blended/hybrid course supplements the 30+ hours of asynchronous online classes via an experienced team of GIIM/local facilitators/mentors online.

Each self-paced asynchronous blended/hybrid course supplements the 30+ hours of asynchronous online classes via an experienced team of GIIM/local facilitators/mentors using an innovative online model described below.

This new, innovative solution to blended/hybrid delivery provides self-paced online collaborative feedback to solve candidate problem-solving projects that applies the content of the GIIM course to the candidates' job or the job they aspire to attain. It unleashes the power of a learning feedback loop that allows candidates/students to learn from online dialogue with GIIM facilitators/mentors.

Candidates in the Blended Asynchronous courses do not need to meet for live/synchronous scheduled sessions.  Instead, candidates will

  1. Answer questions about course content as it relates to their career
  2. Synthesize the facilitator/mentor feedback which improves the candidates’ unique solution while providing a deeper understanding of the concept by evaluating multiple solutions or approaches.  Candidates leverage the power of interaction with their experienced mentor/facilitator
  3. While there are no scheduled live sessions, candidates will need to complete the assignments in a predefined time period.
  4. Candidates are assessed/graded based on practical real-world projects that applies the content of the course to candidates job or career aspirations.

Online group chats can be provided that focus on each step, to private messages, to confidentiality and visibility settings.  Affiliates have control to set the type of feedback and interaction their candidates have to strengthen each individual's learning and our shared sense of purpose.

We don’t merely require a quiz because Human Resources says we have too.  With a clear purpose, engaged candidates create and share effective solutions to corporate problems.  Candidates learn content that is applied to a solution that can be put into practice.  This model makes the learning journey more purposeful and finishes with a GIIM facilitator/mentor engaged in the problem-solving with the candidate.

GIIM has leveraged the Huddle Up system to support this asynchronous blended/hybrid.

The innovative model is well-suited for asynchronous learning for candidates to fit their experience and schedules:

  1. share and dialog about their solutions
  2. time to review and consider feedback
  3. progress to the next stage of learning

Local mentors/facilitators can be prepared by GIIM faculty via an effective T3 (Teach-the-Teachers or Train-the-Trainers) model.

With each course typically being 30 1-hour asynchronous online lectures (keep in mind that some courses have a few more or a few less), most affiliates schedule five groups of short answer questions to summarize learning for the following modules.

  1.     1 - 6
  2.     7 - 12
  3.     13 - 18
  4.     19 - 24
  5.     25 - 30

Students submit their answers to relevant module sessions at the completion of each of the group of modules.  Affiliates can then provide individual feedback asynchronously, and/or assign short peer review asynchronous feedback assignments to help assess understanding of material.

GIIM works with its affiliates to derive an effective efficient schedule.

Candidates/students normally require 2 weeks to complete their final paper that applies the content of the course to their jobs or desired career.

As part of this model, there would not be synchronous scheduled class sessions. Candidates would submit their responses to the online questions and would then receive feedback from the facilitator/mentor. Candidates often complete and discuss different aspects of their final paper throughout the course.

The actual frequency/schedule for the online class discussions depends on whether the candidates are working or not and how long the affiliate believes the 4-course certificate should take.

If affiliates want to have the 4-course certificate completed in 6 months (26 weeks, not considering holidays), that means having each course completed (including the final paper) in 4.5 weeks.
